Synopsis
Wall Street in the Black (WSITB) is an engaging educational documentary about the unheralded success of African Americans in the world’s leading financial center, Wall Street. It offers a unique and intimate look from an African American perspective, and introduces the audience to industry trailblazers such as Joseph Searles, the first African American floor member of the New York Stock Exchange; John W. Rogers, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Ariel Investments; and Rev. Dr. Nadja Fidelia, who is pictured above, is a founding member of Eland Captial, a division of the Williams Captial Group, L.P. Their stories interweave with other key interviews as well as archival photographs and footage of notable trailblazers and events that became turning points in the financial world. A story of empowerment and a call to action, WSITB depicts the ascension of an underrepresented group of people overcoming great obstacles and reaching positions of respect, power, and influence in a field that was previously open only to white men. Their stories show a side of Wall Street that is rarely considered when studying the history of this important American industry. Wall Street in the Black reveals both a valuable story about the financial industry and an equally significant story of blacks in America.
